Army Dog Center in Taunsa

Taunsa is a town in Dera Ghazi Khan district on the Indus, home to Taunsa Barrage and the shrine of Khwaja Sulaiman at Taunsa Sharif, with the Koh-e-Suleiman range to the west. The road runs north to Layyah and south to Dera Ghazi Khan.

Situations we are asked about in Taunsa

  • Pilgrims or families separated from a group at the shrine.
  • Vehicles taken from the road toward Layyah or Dera Ghazi Khan.
  • Livestock taken from a village near the river.
  • A person missing near the barrage or riverbank.

At festival times, the shrine fills with visitors, and a scene is lost quickly. At other times, the riverbank and the foothills offer wide, open ground. Sand and stone keep few marks, but scent remains for a trained dog.

Tell us the area, the road, and the time. Keep the spot closed. Report serious crimes to the police on 15, then call Army Dog Center on 0300-5780720, at any hour.

At the shrine, large numbers of pilgrims arrive by bus and on foot, so tell us which gate, courtyard or camp the person was last seen at and the name of the group or village they came with. If a vehicle was taken from the barrage area, note the time and whether any staff on duty saw it. Ask the shrine's officials whether a lost-and-found record exists, and tell them the time and clothing description.

If the loss was at the barrage or river bank, tell us whether the water was rising or falling, and ask local boatmen or fishermen whether they noticed anything unusual that day.
